Sue Gordon of Jewell and Tim Dwight of Iowa City have been named the Iowa Games 2011 Marty McHone Athletes of the Year. Both athletes will be honored at the 2012 Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project Opening Ceremony as they carry the Iowa Games torch.

In celebration of its 25th Anniversary Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project, the Iowa Sports Foundation is searching for Iowans that have been involved with the sports festival for every year it has been in existence. Those individuals who qualify will be invited to the Opening Ceremony at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Friday, July 15 where they will be recognized by ISF president, Jim Hallihan, and participate in the lighting of the Iowa Games Olympic-style cauldron.

AMES, Iowa (June 6, 2011) – Iowa Sports Foundation President, Jim Hallihan, announced the recipients of the 2011 Brian Pearson Memorial scholarship. This year’s recipients are Isaac Olson of Urbandale High School and Kaytlin Tippin of Waukee High School.
Each year the Iowa Sports Foundation chooses two recipients to receive the distinguished Brian Pearson Scholarship, one male and one female. The scholarship, sponsored by the Orr, Kenyon and Skinner families, is to honor former Iowa State University Basketball Player Brian Pearson who died of brain cancer in 1997.
Olson and Tippin were chosen for their character and ability to demonstrate citizenship, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Scholarship winners are also students who are accomplished in school, activities and make a positive impact in the community.

Youth Soccer Registration Deadlines Approaching
AMES, Iowa – Deadlines for the Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project youth soccer tournament are quickly approaching. The tournament is slated for July 15-17 in Ames.
As one of the original Iowa Games sports in 1987, over 90,000 athletes have participated in the Iowa Games soccer tournament in its 25 year history. In 2010, the tournament featured over 2,600 athletes on 194 teams.

AMES, Iowa - The inaugural Iowa Games National Anthem competition ended today. The competition was held to select a singer for the Opening Ceremony of the 25th Anniversary Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project. The Summer Iowa Games Opening Ceremony will be held on July 15, 2011 in Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
The Iowa Games is proud to announce Derrick Wiley, Connor Girkin and Grant Luther from the group “The 3 from Waukee” as the 2011 National Anthem competition winners. The 3 from Waukee will sing the National Anthem at the 2011 Summer Iowa Games and also have the opportunity to perform the National Anthem at an Iowa Cubs game in August.

Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF) officials announced today the opening of registration for the 25th Anniversary Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food and Family project is now available at IowaGames.org. From May to July, athletes from every county in the state will take part in a summer tradition in Iowa’s premier annual sports festival.
Featured at this year’s Games will be Iowa’s own, Shawn Johnson and Tim Dwight. Dwight, former Hawkeye and NFL standout, will be competing in 25 different Iowa Games events in celebration of the 25th Anniversary and is challenging all Iowans to compete against him in one of the 25 events. Johnson, an Olympic gold medal gymnast, will be the keynote speaker at the Opening Ceremony.

Leaders of Iowa’s food, farming and wellness communities gathered
today to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Iowa Games and announced a first-of-its-kind
partnership that will propel Iowa forward in its quest to be the healthiest state in the nation.
Governor Terry Branstad, who helped launch the Iowa Games in 1987, praised the
accomplishment the 25th anniversary Summer Games represents and introduced the Iowa Food &
Family Project (Iowa FFP) as the presenting sponsor of the Iowa Games and supporter of the Live
Healthy Iowa program.

The Iowa Sports Foundation announced today the kick-off of its first ever National Anthem competition. The competition is an opportunity for Iowans to show their talents for a chance to be selected to sing the National Anthem at the Summer Iowa Games Opening Ceremony.
The 25th Anniversary Summer Iowa Games Opening Ceremony will be held on July 15, 2011 in Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The winner will also have the opportunity to perform at an Iowa Cubs baseball game in August.
