Competition Information

Format

Each athlete must bring his or her own basketball. In each division with more than 8 athletes, the top 8 scoring athletes in the preliminary round will advance to the final round for medals. Volunteers will be needed to help score and time - a great way to receive a T-shirt!

Shootout

Shoot for the highest score from various spots on the court within a time limit based on age: Younger than Age 30 - 1 minute; Age 30 and Over - 1 minute 30 seconds. Preliminaries: Total score in 2 rounds; Finals: Total score in 1 round.

Shootout Rules

1. A player may start at any spot.
2. A player must have one foot completely inside the spot when the shot is taken. No points will be scored on that shot if violated.
3. A player must get his or her own rebound. If the shot is made, they can run to the next spot. If the shot is missed, they must dribble to the next spot. If a player misses a shot and does not dribble to the next spot, the basket from this next spot will not count.
4. If the ball goes out of bounds, the clock will be stopped while the ball is retrieved.
5. When the player steps inbounds, the clock will start again. The dribble rule applies.
6. Shots may be taken in any order.
7. Ties will be settled by a one round shoot off.

Shooting Spot Width / Distance

Spots are 2 feet in diameter. The distance is measured from the point on the court directly beneath the center of the basket to the center of each spot. Girls 12 & Under and Boys 10 & Under will be 4 feet closer to the basket at each spot. Girls 13 - 14 and Boys 11 - 12 will be 2 feet closer to the basket at each spot.

Free Throw Competition

Each round will consist of 15 free throws from standard distance. NOTE: Girls & Boys 12 & Under will shoot 12 free throws from 10 feet. Preliminaries: Total score in 2 rounds. Top 8 scores and ties will advance to one final round. Finals: 15 free throws. Ties will be broken with "sudden-death" shoot off of 15 more free throws.

Age Determining Date

Saturday, July 19, 2008.

Ball Size

Official high school size and weight balls are to be used for all male divisions age 15 & Over. Official girls' high school size (28.5 oz.) balls are to be used for all female divisions in addition to male divisions less than 15 & Under. Athletes are to bring their own basketball and should have their names clearly printed on them.
