Air Pistol

30 shot course, 3 ten shot stages, 15 minutes per stage. Support pistol with one hand. Equipment- .177 cal. air pistol, metallic sights, single loaded. Target- NRA B-40 target. Contact: Bill Mullan, 319.372.2312.

Air Rifle

30 shot course, 3 ten shot stages, 15 minutes per stage. Equipment- .177 cal. Air Rifle, metallic sights, single loaded, no specialized shooting clothing. Target- NRA AR5/10. Contact: Bill Mullan, 319.372.2312.

Air Rifle Silhouette

40 shots standing, 2 minute 30 seconds per 5 shot string.  Equipment: .177 caliber air rifle maximum velocity of 600 fps, any sights.  Target:  Remote reset silhouettes of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams at 20, 30, 36 and 45 yards respectively.  Contact: Ray Dietrich 563-263-2186

Black Powder Rifle

5 shots at 25, 50 and 100 yards. Total of 15 shots. Equipment: Traditional style Black Powder Rifle (exposed hammer), muzzle loading, open sights, cloth-patched ball bullets. Open Class: open sights, round ball, in-line or traditional style rifle. Unlimited Class: Any black powder rifle, open or scoped, any bullet. TARGET: will be provided by I.B.P.F. Black Powder Handgun

5 shots at 25 yards, 5 shots at 50 yards. Total of 10 shots. Equipment: Traditional style muzzle loading single shot or revolver. (No in-line actions) Open sights, round ball, support handgun with one hand. Contact: Dave Gordon, 515.827.5366.

Field Rifle (.22 cal)
40 shots, standing, 2 1/2 minutes per 5 shots.  Equipment - FIELD RIFLE: .22 cal rimfire out of box hunting type rifle, Iron sights only with post or bead from and notched rear sight, 7.5 lbs. or less, not less than 2lb trigger pull.  NRA HUNTING RIFLE:  Max. of 9 power scope allowed, .22 cal rimfire, max. 8.5 lbs., minimum trigger pull 2.0 lbs. Course is a 50 ft. indoor range with target TBA.  (No target sights or target style stocks allowed.  Mannlicher-style is allowed.)

Five Stand

25 targets. Equipment: shotgun, maximum 12 ga., 1 1/8 oz. shot, no more than 2 shells loaded at a time. Clay targets will be used. TARGET FEE: Fee will be collected on the range. Fun rounds available after competition. Contact:  Tim Harwood, 515-233-4383 or tharwood@globalccs.net.

International Standard Pistol

30 shot course, 8 1/2 minutes. Support pistol with one hand. Equipment- .22 cal. rimfire pistol, metallic sights. NRA B-33 target. CONTACT: Bill Mullan, 319.372.2312.

Silhouette

40-shots, standing, 2 1/2 minutes, per 5 shots.  Equipment - FIELD RIFLE: .22 cal rimfire out of box hunting type rifle, Iron sights only, 7.5 lbs. or less, not less than 2 lb. trigger pull.  NRA HUNTING RIFLE: .22 cal rimfire, max. 8.5 lbs., minimum trigger pull 2.0 lbs., any sights.  OPEN CLASS (Heavy Rifle):  Any rifle conforming to NRA rules, 10 lbs. 2 oz.  Target- Steel silhouettes of chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams at 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters respectively.  Contact: Carrol McCracken, 515-291-7688 or cmccracken@jcgland.com

Smallbore Free Pistol

30 shot course, 45 minutes. Support pistol with one hand. Equipment- .22 cal. rimfire pistol, metallic sights, single loaded. NRA B-11 target. Contact: Bill Mullan, 319.372.2312.

Trapshooting

50 targets, 25 from 16 yards then 25 from the handicap position. (score 19 on your first 25 targets then you shoot your second 25 at the 19 yard line). Shootouts held on a miss and out basis. Equipment - shotgun, maximum 12 ga. maximum shot 1 1/8 oz. Target: Orange dome clay birds. TARGET FEE: collected at range. Contact:  Tim Harwood, 515-233-4383 or tharwood@globalccs.net.

Doubles Trap

50 targets all from 16 yards. Equipment - 12 ga. or smaller, 1 1/8 oz.  Targets: Orange dome clay birds. TARGET FEE: collected at range.  Contact:  Tim Harwood, 515-233-4383 or tharwood@globalccs.net.

Western Action Shoot

Modern Class: may have modern western wear and use post 1900 firearms with adjustable sights. Shooters MUST have a western look. No ball caps, t-shirts or tennis shoes will be allowed. Smokeless or Black powder may be used. Period Class: MUST have "period correct" clothing, firearms, and accessories from the 1865-1899 era. May use smokeless or black powder. ALL CLASSES: Please designate smokeless or black powder.  Ammunition requirements for both divisions: Projectiles shall be cast lead or lead alloy. No metal-jacketed projectiles allowed. Smokeless loads shall not exceed the maximum muzzle velocities of comparable black powder loads. No squib/magnum velocity loads. No loading below manufacture’s recommendation. Minimum velocity for any match firearm is 600fps or published loading data for each caliber. Shotgun shells shall be lead only and no larger than #7 1/2’s. For new or first time shooters who do not reload it is recommended that you use factory cowboy loads. Smokeless loads may be chronographed and certified before the shooter will be allowed to compete. Awards

An Awards Ice Cream social will be held on Saturday at 5 pm for all shooting events taking place at the Ames Izaak Walton League.  Any medals won on Saturday will be given out at the social.  Medals for shooting events taking place on Sunday will be awarded at the conclusion of each event.  Please note that no medals will be mailed out after the Games.  It is the responsibility of the athlete to obtain any medal prior to departing the competition site. 
 

Event Limits

Shooters may enter up to two (2) events per day for the entry fee. Silhouette shooters can enter only one class and can only shoot in Either the morning OR afternoon matches, but NOT both. Black powder shooters may enter up to two (2) classes, one to be shot in the morning and one in the afternoon. Check each event description for any additional fees specific to that event.
Additional fees for targets will be paid on-site.
A $25 on-site registration fee may be charged.

Rules

As a general guideline, current NRA, ATA, NSSF, and Iowa Black Powder Federation rules will be followed. Due to the nature of this competition, the listed range officers' decisions regarding any question concerning rules will be final. Hearing and eye protection are required. Hearing protection is optional for Air Gun events. All shooters are responsible for their own equipment.
