Connor Kunze Wins the 100M at the 2025 State High School Track Meet

The 2026 Winter Iowa Games presented by Grinnell Mutual will host its annual Indoor Track & Field Meet this Saturday, February 28, at the Hawkeye Indoor Track inside the Recreation Building. The competition will feature many of the state’s top high school and adult athletes, including standouts from the 2025 Iowa high school state championships.

One of the premier events to watch will be the boys 17–19 60-meter dash, showcasing the top four finishers from last spring’s Class 3A 100-meter final. The field includes state champion Connor Kunze (Nevada), runner-up Ryan Bair (Keokuk), third-place finisher Landry Haberichter (West Burlington), and fourth-place finisher Tay Seals (Clear Creek Amana).

Additional top sprinters competing include Alexander Brown (Central DeWitt), Lamar Ceant (Columbus Junction), Will Pauli (Cedar Falls), and Owen Von Ahsen (Benton). In the distance events, Caleb Ten Pas (Des Moines Christian) and Keegan Decker (Iowa City Liberty) headline a strong field.

On the girls side, elite sprinters Abby Cave (Marion), Elise Coghlan (ADM), Jana Maharry (Waukee), and CaliAna Whitaker (Mount Vernon) will compete. In the middle-distance events, Alaina Gourley (Danville) and Grace Storjohann (Grundy Center) are among the top entries.

The meet will also feature outstanding adult competitors. Former University of Iowa standout and NFL veteran Tim Dwight will compete in the 60-meter and 200-meter races. The oldest male athlete in the field is Greuling Schellhorn, 86, of Boscobel, Wisconsin, who will compete in the 200-meter and 400-meter events. The oldest female athlete is Ann Hegstrom, 70, of DeSoto, Iowa, the 2016 Iowa Games Female Athlete of the Year. She is entered in the 60-meter and 200-meter races.

More than 600 athletes from across the Midwest are expected to compete, representing Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, and Nebraska.

Field events begin at 10:00 a.m., with running events scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
